Saturday, October 1 - The Bible and the Virgin Mary: Week 3 - Wedding at Cana, Garden in Eden

We are back for another great week!   In this session, we’re going to dive into the famous story of the Wedding at Cana and see how this event in the Gospel of John is directly connected to the event of the Garden of Eden.

We will also address the accusations often made by non-Catholics that Jesus scolds Mary in a passage in Matthew 12.

Themes Covered:
The Wedding at Cana
The relationship between the Creation account in Genesis and the
beginning of the Gospel of John
The meaning of the mysterious “third day” in John
Jesus’ role as the New Adam
Answers to those who say Jesus scolds Mary at Cana
Response to the accusation that Jesus insults Mary in Matthew 12:46-50

"And Mary said, 'My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.'"

Saturday, September 24 - The Bible and the Virgin Mary: Week 2 - The Price of Failed Leadership

We’re back!  Last week was a great beginning to what promises to be a great program.  This week we tackle the issue of men’s leadership and its impact on our current society.

Don't forget to invite a friend this week!  This is the beginning of an amazing journey.

Stay Up to Date:

Brothers, This is the first big week of "The Bible and the Virgin Mary." If you would like to preview the session you can find it on "Formed." The parish pass code is available - just ask. Also available is a study guide if you wish to study the sessions furthers.

A Few Notes About This Week's Gathering

Just a few notes about this weeks gathering.

As many of you are aware the Band of Brothers was asked by the Sundancer committee to donate a wheelbarrow of spirits to be off at the Sundancer as a fundraiser for the OLF church and school.  When we did this last year some guys donated monetarily and others donated a bottle of spirits, either is acceptable and donations will be accepted for the next few weeks.

The Band of Brothers will again be leading the Rosary before every Mass during the last weekend of October.  Leading the Rosary before our Parish is a great opportunity to honor Our Lady and I ask that each of discern if you are being called to do just that.  Volunteers will be needed before the 5:00 p.m. Mass that Saturday as well as the 7:00, 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday. Please contact me if you are being called to do this.

Those men who are interested in putting together the agenda for the November Mens Retreat are asked to meet after the Band of Bros. meeting this Saturday to plan this.  Positions that need filled are meal coordinator, group coordinator, music coordinator, liturgy coordinator, prayer coordinator, etc.

Saturday, September 17 - The Bible and the Virgin Mary: Week 1 - A Biblical Introduction to Mary

We are finally back.  In this semester we will be growing in our understanding of Mary and Scripture.  However, we will still be discussing issues relevant to men within the small groups.  We hope you are excited for a dynamic year.

Some of the themes we will be covering this semester are as follows:

  • How to properly read the Bible, particularly passages about Mary
  • Review the texts that mention Mary and begin to see the vital nature of her role in helping us get to heaven
  • Learn the connection between Jesus, Mary, and the nation of Israel
  • Discuss the importance of covenants in the story of salvation history
  • See how Mary is the divine “sign” promised by God in the Old Testament
  • Overview of the rest of the study

Looking forward to the first session of "The Bible and the Virgin Mary."

First Session of the Fall Semester - Saturday, September 10, 2016

Brothers in Christ,

This Saturday will be the first session of the fall semester and we will begin it with prayer.  For this series "The Bible and the Virgin Mary" there is no prayer more fitting than the Rosary.  At 6:30 a.m sharp we will pray the Rosary followed by insights into the new year as well as our usual petitions and announcements and registration for the TMIY series and the Men's Retreat.  There will be Rosaries available but please feel welcome to bring your own.

Last evening I sent out an introduction to the TMIY series "The Bible and the Virgin Mary" by Mark Harfield of Paradisus Dei.  If you did not receive it you will need to register for the TMIY series this Saturday.
