Kapuan and his many virtues. Over the next 6 weeks we will be presented
with the virtues of Father Kapuan and how we can take them as our own. The
first virtue studied is Mercy, followed by Faith, Hope, Love, Courage, and
Mission.<br />
<br />
<em>"Learning
to give mercy can be difficult for us as men, but it's one of the first steps
in truly coming to know the love of God. Just before his death Father
Kapaun made the decision to forgive his captors who allowed so many men to die
and to ask for their forgiveness. This session will help us to embrace
our own need for God's mercy and in turn share that mercy with others."</em></span></span><br />
<span style="color: white;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><i><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></i></span>
</span><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: white;">The Band of Brothers will again provide a contribution of spirits (the liquid kind) to the upcoming
Sundancer. A "pass the hat" collection will be taken this week
and with the donations a variety of spirits will be purchased for a winner take
all raffle during the Sundancer event. If you prefer to bring a liquor of
your choice you may do that this week also.<br />
<br />
The Band of Brothers will cook breakfast for women attending the Ladies Retreat in
the Parish Hall on Saturday Sept. 28th. Volunteer chefs are needed to
cook and serve at this event, if you are available to help serve ladies of our
parish please contact Mark Tristani at <a href="mailto:mark.tristani@gmail.com">mark.tristani@gmail.com</a>.<br />
<br />As you know Father Frank has received a new assignment and left for his new
parish this week (thanks to those of you who helped him move). Father Frank has been a spiritual asset to the parish as
well as this group and we thank him for his guidance and wish him well.
Holy Rosary parish is privileged to have him as their Pastor. The 8 a.m. Mass on Sundays is in English - we're sure Father Frank would welcome seeing friendly faces occasionally.<br />
<br />
Welcome Father Michael! Please welcome Father Michael to the Parish as you have
the opportunity. We look forward to the gifts he will bring to the parish. </span><span style="color: #222222;"> </span></span>

The DVD series "The Wild Goose" is designed to help us develop a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. Of the three in the Trinity, the Holy Spirit tends to be the one who gets lost in the shuffle. We look at the Holy Spirit as being one in the Trinity but do we really relate to the Spirit as we do to God and his son Jesus? In my mind the Holy Spirit is the backbone, the leader, of the Band of Brothers and has been there from the beginning, guiding and pushing us along on our journey to a greater relationship with Jesus Christ.<br /><br />Breakfast is served at 6:00 a.m. with the presentation starting at 6:30 a.m.</span>Band of Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09369655616616517381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829664008647671128.post-81597698241829533732017-02-15T01:00:00.000-08:002017-09-12T07:53:17.703-07:00Our Lady of Fatima Band of Brothers - Lakewood, Colorado<div class="MsoNormal">

It does not really get publicized and I don't think that it is being used or read by anyone on any regular basis.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I think I am going to go ahead and retire it unless there are a few folks actually reading it every once in a while. If you see this post and would like to see the blog continue, please send an email to <a href="mailto:OLFBOB@Jekada.com">OLFBOB@Jekada.com</a>.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If I don't hear from at least 3 or 4 folks by February 15, 2017, I'll put the blog in suspended mode indefinitely. Thanks much.</span>Band of Brothershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09369655616616517381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829664008647671128.post-84271784346965170792016-11-18T06:12:00.001-08:002016-11-18T06:12:06.172-08:00Saturday, November 12, 2016 - The Bible and the Virgin Mary: Week 8 - Mother Crowned in Glory<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This week we will focus on Mary’s royal title a little further and then move into another of the Marian dogmas: Mary’s status as Mother of God. For those of us who pray the rosary, this is a familiar title, though perhaps we’ve never given it much thought.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This Session Includes:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Mary’s royal title in the Gospels of Luke and John</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The dogma of Mary as Mother of God (Theotokos)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>How Mary’s title as Mother of God protects the humanity and divinity of Jesus</span><br />

This week we’re going to examine the role played by the Queen Mothers of the Davidic Kingdom in the Old Testament and how they point forward to Mary’s role as Queen Mother. As we’re about to see, Mary’s queenship is alluded to in Matthew’s genealogy, which opens the entire New Testament.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This Session Contains: </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The wise advice of King Lemuel’s mother</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The role of the Gebirah, or Queen Mother, in the Davidic kingdom</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The Old Testament prophecies of Isaiah and Micah regarding Our Lady</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Queen Mother Mary</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Mary’s important place in Matthew’s genealogy</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Next weekend is the men’s retreat so there will be no gathering at the parish center. Please see the emailed sign-up sheet for car pools to the retreat. In the past several guys have mentioned the benefits to car pooling in addition to saving gas; it is in the car pool that the fellowship for the retreat starts. There are still several slots available so it still is not too late to join us, it promises to be a great weekend.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This coming weekend is also the TMIY fall donation appeal. TMIY has supplied the series we are viewing to us free of charge and the only requirement is the donation appeals. In the past we’ve passed the basket but this year they are doing it a little different. This year cards will be handed out much like the stewardship drive for the parish. Donations can be made in cash, check, credit card, or online, which is the preferred method.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We've been blessed with great attendance this year and I pray it will continue. Please be sure to share this journey by inviting an acquaintance to join us.</span><br />

<br />
As many of you are aware the Band of Brothers was asked by the Sundancer
committee to donate a wheelbarrow of spirits to be off at the Sundancer as a
fundraiser for the OLF church and school. When we did this last year some
guys donated monetarily and others donated a bottle of spirits, either is
acceptable and donations will be accepted for the next few weeks.<br />
<br />
The Band of Brothers will again be leading the Rosary before every Mass during
the last weekend of October. Leading the Rosary before our Parish is a
great opportunity to honor Our Lady and I ask that each of discern if you are
being called to do just that. Volunteers will be needed before the 5:00
p.m. Mass that Saturday as well as the 7:00, 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Masses
on Sunday. Please contact me if you are being called to do this.<br />
<br />
Those men who are interested in putting together the agenda for the November
Mens Retreat are asked to meet after the Band of Bros. meeting this Saturday to
plan this. Positions that need filled are meal coordinator, group
coordinator, music coordinator, liturgy coordinator, prayer coordinator, etc.<br />
<br />

In this semester we will be growing in our understanding of Mary and Scripture. However, we will still be discussing issues relevant to men within the small groups. We hope you are excited for a dynamic year.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Some of the themes we will be covering this semester are as follows:</span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">How to properly read the Bible, particularly passages about Mary</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Review the texts that mention Mary and begin to see the vital nature of her role in helping us get to heaven</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Learn the connection between Jesus, Mary, and the nation of Israel</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Discuss the importance of covenants in the story of salvation history</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">See how Mary is the divine “sign” promised by God in the Old Testament</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Overview of the rest of the study</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Looking forward to the first session of "The Bible and the Virgin Mary."</span><br />

bring your own.<br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As
I mentioned last Saturday, the Father Ed Judy House will be moving from Fort
Logan to the old convent at St. Bernadette's. The Father Ed Judy House
works with women and children who are coming from difficult circumstances.
For more information, click here: <a href="https://fejh.wordpress.com/">https://fejh.wordpress.com/.</a><br />
<br />
We may have the opportunity to help with this ministry when it moves to St.
Bernadette's. I'd like to get a preliminary indication of interest to see
if it is worth pursuing, so if this speaks to your heart, please email me to
let me know of your tentative interest. There are a lot of details to be
determined still, but if we have enough interest, I will continue to pursue it
with Catholic Charities. It may also be a good ministry for those of us
who have teenagers as well.<br />
<br />Please contact me if you think you might be interested.<br />
<br />
Thanks for your prayerful consideration.<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In
session 9 this week, we realize Peter was raised to be a faithful Jew.
“In the light of Jesus’ teaching, however, he has to reconsider numerous
things he once thought settled. For example, the Temple was expected to
last forever, but Jesus prophesied it destruction. The Messiah was
expected to unshackle the Jews from Roman slavery and reestablish the kingdom
of David, but instead, Jesus offered freedom from slavery to sin and an eternal
Kingdom greater than David’s. Instead of the glory of a throne, Jesus was
glorified on a Cross. Now, as the head of the Church, Peter will be led b
y Jesus to the city of Joppa, where he will yet again be called to reconsider
and deepen his understanding.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica",sans-serif;">This Saturday we will view the eighth episode of the Lectio Series -
Peter. Dr. Gray
discusses the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in Peter’s life starting at
Pentecost. When Jesus ascends into heaven, he tells his Apostles that he
will send the promise of the Father to them. Peter and the others wait in
Jerusalem until the Feast of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descends on
them. From this point onward we see a marked change in Peter. Speaking
in new languages is only one small, albeit attention-grabbing, part of the
change. No longer do we see fear or questioning in Peter; instead he
leads the Apostles and preaches to the Jews with a remarkable boldness that
will characterize the rest of his life and ministry.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 16.5pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 16.5pt;">
<i><span style="font-family: "Helvetica",sans-serif;">“It
can easily be shown from examples both in the Old Testament and the New that
the Spirit changes those in whom he comes to dwell; he so transforms them that
they begin to live a completely new kind of life.” </span></i><span style="font-family: "Helvetica",sans-serif;">St. Cyril of Alexandria<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">“What’s
the difference between following Jesus closely and following from a
distance? In the session this week, we’ll see how Peter discovers the
answer to that question in a terribly painful way. The “rock,” the “prime
minister,” the man to whom the future Church has been entrusted is tested-and
we learn from his experience what it truly means to follow Christ and to seek
forgiveness.” <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 16.5pt;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The
Band of Brothers is privileged to lead the Rosary at all Masses, except the 5
p.m. Mass on the weekend Sunday Mass of May 28 – 29. Please discern if you
are being called to lead the rosary at one of these Masses, a minimum of 4 guys
are needed but if we team up for the Masses it will provide more guys the
opportunity to participate in leading this devotion. Please contact Sam
Berning if interested. <br />
<br />
In addition, the Band of Bros. is responsible for cleaning the ovens in the
Parish Center during the month of April and May. I will be staying after
group to clean them this weekend if anyone is interested in helping.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 16.5pt;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The
session this week discusses the Transfiguration. “Peter, along with John and
James, goes with Jesus up a mountain to pray and receive a special revelation
of Jesus’ glory. Peter hears the voice to the Father speaking out of the
cloud: “this is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” (Luke
9:35). This experience prepares the Apostles for the sufferings awaiting
Jesus in Jerusalem-and the challenges and sufferings they will experience as a
result of following him.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 16.5pt; margin-bottom: 12.0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In regard to the upcoming storm,
(of which everyone seems to have a different opinion about), please check your
email for a flock note notification that the session is cancelled. I highly
doubt it will be necessary to cancel but just in case check Flock Note before
traversing any storm.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

to the short time we have left in this semester we will be skipping various
sessions as this is a fairly long series. This week we will skip session
four and move on to session five “Peter and the Keys.” “In the fifth
session, we continue our look at a pivotal point in the life of Peter and in
the life of the Church. The “keys of the kingdom” provide the key to
understanding Peter’s role in the Church founded upon him.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
