Saturday, October 29 - The Bible and the Virgin Mary: Week 7 - The Promised Mother

We are back this week.  This week we’re going to examine the role played by the Queen Mothers of the Davidic Kingdom in the Old Testament and how they point forward to Mary’s role as Queen Mother. As we’re about to see, Mary’s queenship is alluded to in Matthew’s genealogy, which opens the entire New Testament.

This Session Contains:
The wise advice of King Lemuel’s mother
The role of the Gebirah, or Queen Mother, in the Davidic kingdom
The Old Testament prophecies of Isaiah and Micah regarding Our Lady
Queen Mother Mary
Mary’s important place in Matthew’s genealogy

Next weekend is the men’s retreat so there will be no gathering at the parish center. Please see the emailed sign-up sheet for car pools to the retreat.  In the past several guys have mentioned the benefits to car pooling in addition to saving gas; it is in the car pool that the fellowship for the retreat starts.  There are still several slots available so it still is not too late to join us, it promises to be a great weekend.

This coming weekend is also the TMIY fall donation appeal.  TMIY has supplied the series we are viewing to us free of charge and the only requirement is the donation appeals.  In the past we’ve passed the basket but this year they are doing it a little different.  This year cards will be handed out much like the stewardship drive for the parish.  Donations can be made in cash, check, credit card, or online, which is the preferred method.

In addition, we’re also going to deal with the common claim that Jesus had brothers and that Joseph and Mary had marital relations after the birth of Jesus.

Themes Covered:
The nature and role of dogmas
The dogma of Mary’s Perpetual Virginity
Mary’s true interior, spiritual identity
Old Testament foreshadowing of Mary’s perpetual virginity
Answers to the objection of Jesus’ “brethren”
St. Jerome’s answers to the claim Mary and Joseph had sexual relations after the birth of Jesus

Week 4 - Saturday, October 8

Week 4 is upon us and I'm told group 4 will prepare a new standard of breakfast this weekend.

We've been blessed with great attendance this year and I pray it will continue. It is a grace of God to have the opportunity to spend Saturday mornings with a group of guys who've all answered God's call in some form or another and choose to expand that call in a spirit filled journey together.  Please be sure to share this journey by inviting an acquaintance to join us.

This week in the session "The New Eve", "the roles of Jesus and Mary cannot be separated.  Holding to the pattern of salvation history, the Gospel of John demonstrates that if Christ is the new Adam, Mary is the New Eve, the mother of all who live in Jesus Christ."

I you haven't had the opportunity to make a donation toward the BoB contribution to the Sundancer, there is still time to do it this weekend.  Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this worthy cause.

Blessed be His Holy Name!

Saturday, October 8 - The Bible and the Virgin Mary: Week 4 - The New Eve

This week we will analyze why Jesus only refers to His mother as “woman” in the Gospel of John. Our discussion will also include Mary’s title as the New Eve and the real Bridegroom present at the wedding at Cana.

Themes Covered:
Answer those who say Jesus insults Mary at Cana
Connect the “woman" of Genesis, Revelation, and Cana
Understand why the Church Fathers refer to Mary as the “New Eve”
Discover who the true Bridegroom and Bride are at Cana

"The knot of Eve's disobedience was loosed by the obedience of Mary. The knot which the virgin Eve tied by her unbelief, the Virgin Mary opened by her belief." - St. Irenaeus -
